Information needed for custom paint manufacturing
The technical, process and commercial inputs that help a manufacturer evaluate a made-to-order industrial coating.
Explain the performance objective
Describe what is being coated, where it operates and which failure mode must be prevented. Include corrosion, weathering, heat, chemicals, abrasion, appearance, cleaning and expected service conditions as applicable.
Share a current product, specification or sample as a reference and explain what works or fails. A trade name or colour sample can guide investigation, but it does not prove chemistry, performance, approvals or equivalence.
Describe the substrate and production process
Record substrate, preparation, previous layer, application equipment, line speed, flash-off, curing and available controls. A formulation must fit the buyer’s real process, not only pass a laboratory drawdown.
State constraints such as occupied-site application, limited ventilation, seasonal temperature, maximum curing time or an existing spray setup. Early disclosure helps determine whether adjustment, different chemistry or a process change is responsible.
Set measurable acceptance criteria
List colour tolerance, gloss, appearance, film build, adhesion, drying or curing behaviour and relevant resistance tests. Identify the test method, substrate preparation and conditioning so both parties evaluate the same result.
Separate mandatory criteria from targets that can be balanced against application speed, cost or packaging. State what evidence is required before a sample, pilot batch or commercial batch can be accepted.
Define scale-up and commercial scope
Provide trial quantity, commercial batch range, expected demand, packaging, label language, destination and required documents. Batch size can affect raw-material selection, production route and quotation.
Agree a route through feasibility, sample criteria, application trial where necessary, specification approval and batch planning. Any change to substrate, process, test method, packaging or destination should trigger review.
