Primer, intermediate coat and topcoat: different roles in one system
Why industrial coating layers must be selected as a compatible system rather than separate products.
Primer establishes the interface
The primer must suit the prepared substrate and provide the intended adhesion or protective mechanism. It does not automatically provide weathering or colour retention.
Intermediate layers build protection
An intermediate coat can add barrier thickness, reinforce edges and connect primer with the finish. Its compatibility and overcoating window are project-critical.
Topcoat manages final exposure
The finish contributes colour, gloss, cleanability and weather resistance. The whole system still depends on preparation, application and curing quality.
